Cardiff Waterside visits RNLI Penarth to present cheque
At Cardiff Waterside every year we choose a charity of the year and all our events over that year raises money for that particular charity. In 2009 we decided to have two charities of the year, the RNLI lifeboats and Bobath Centre. Our closest RNLI centre to Cardiff Bay is the centre in Penarth which has had a centre there since 1861. Bobath Children’s therapy Centre Cardiff is a specialist treatment centre providing individually tailored therapy for children who have cerebral palsy.
In 2009 we ran a number of events for our tenants to raise money. These included themed lunch time quizzes, pancake tossing, bike Dr and a bicycle obstacle course. As well as raising money for charities all these events give our tenants a chance to meet each other and network in a more informal environment.
Michelle Butler, Office Manager at Knight Frank said “The quizzes are great; we always try and enter a team. It is a really nice way of spending a lunch hour and getting out of the office meeting other people. The fact it is all for charity is a bonus.”
The total amount of money raised in 2009 was £400 which Cardiff Waterside matched so both Bobath and the RNLI were presented with a cheque for £400 in the spring of 2010.
Bev Rosser-Smith, Area Fundraising Manager for the RNLI, said ‘We are not funded at all by the government so are completely reliant on voluntary donations such as this. We are very grateful to Cardiff Waterside and all their tenants for the they money raised in 2009 and it will definitely help with the running of the lifeboat here at Penarth”
In 2010 the Cardiff Waterside charity of the year is the Wales Air Ambulance which provides emergency air cover for those who face life threatening injuries or illnesses. The Wales Air Ambulance needs £5 million a year to keep flying so hopefully all the Cardiff Waterside events in 2010 can go a little way to help them reach this goal.
