New Cafe opens at Cardiff Waterside

A new eatery has opened at Cardiff Waterside to cater for the hundreds of employees who work at the 550,000 sq ft estate of grade A offices in Cardiff Bay.

Local businesswoman Emma Rabiaotti, an experienced restaurateur who runs several restaurants and cafes in Cardiff and Penarth, has signed a lease on 1000 sq ft of space to open the new venture at Scott Harbour.

Café R will serve modern breakfast and lunch options based on traditional Italian cuisine such as paninis, pasta and sandwiches to workers and visitors to Cardiff Waterside.

The café, which offers takeaway or dine-in with seats for up to 16 customers, was custom-designed in Italy and transported to south Wales and built by a specialist team on-site.

Cardiff Waterside consists of eight flexible office buildings including 3 Assembly Square, Caspian Point and Scott Harbour and is home to a number of high profile private and public sector tenants.

These include HBoS, the Welsh Assembly Government and new additions M & A Solicitors and Gambit Corporate Finance, who signed leases for the environmentally friendly BREEAM ‘Excellent’ 3 Assembly Square building in October.

Rhydian Morris, Agent at Knight Frank LLP said: “We are delighted that a new eatery has come to Cardiff Waterside.  This will give office workers a convenient breakfast and lunch option when they don’t quite have time to visit Mermaid Quay but still want pleasant surroundings and a relaxing atmosphere in which to enjoy their break.”

Emma Rabiaotti added: “My family has been running restaurants and cafes in Wales since 1927.  We chose to locate our next venture at Cardiff Waterside as it is one of the busiest working environment in the city.

“With many people working longer and harder in order to beat the recession, making time for a tasty lunch is vital even if it’s just a quick break.  I’m confident Café R’s menu will provide workers with an interesting and diverse range of quality food choices, all on the doorstep of their workplace. “

Laura Clements, Marketing and Tenant Liaison Officer, Cardiff Waterside added:  ”We are delighted to welcome a cafe into the estate.  We know our tenants will really appreciate having somewhere so convenient to pop to when they want to get out of the office whether it is for a leisurely afternoon coffee or to grab a quick breakfast.  The estates team are looking forward to becoming regular customers.”

Café R is open from 7.30am until 3pm weekdays and can also provide catering for external events.
