Tenants have a 'wheel' of a time!
To celebrate bike week, which ran from 12th to 20th June, this year Cardiff Waterside held a bike obstacle course for all tenants. Tenants could enter in teams of 4 to tackle a slalom, pick up and drop challenge, a wiggly road and then finally a bike limbo. The team with the fastest time when all the 4 competitors’ times had been added together would be the winning team. After setting up the course in rather windy conditions- meaning everything had to be weighted or taped down- the event began.

Competitors of all abilities took part from those who cycle to work from miles away everyday to the more sedate weekend cyclists. It was a closely fought competition but in the end Arup Highways team took the prize with a winning time of 90.67 seconds beating the runners up another Arup team by 3 seconds. The individual who did it in the fastest time was Roddy Beynon of the runners up Arup team. Teams also participated from HBOS, Creditsafe and our very own estates management team.

As well as the bicycle obstacle course there was a free bbq for all those who took part and the local bike shop ‘Tredz’ were on hand to offer advice and a Bike Dr service for anyone who wanted a bike service. Tredz are Cardiff Waterside partner in promoting cycling to work and offer all tenants 10% off. Cardiff Waterside also have 3 pool bikes for the use of anyone working in the Cardiff Waterside estate for free for up to a week to see if it is possible for them to cycle to work.
